Without fail C wears the same thing every single day. It's her uniform, and it consists of the following: all cotton short sleeved t-shirt all cotton short skirt all cotton tights boots or sneakers
Patterns and decoration are incidental. She has her own opinions about what looks good. She will not accept my gentle advice (or anyone else's) about what goes together. Because, as far as she's concerned, she looks fabulous. And comfort is more important anyway.
Weather matters not to her. Rain, sleet, snow, frigid temperatures? Still the same outfit. She will, under protest and with much complaining, bring along a long-sleeved shirt or a fleece (if I insist), but she probably won't wear it.
She used to fight me about bringing coat/hat/gloves to school, but then the teachers informed students that they would not be allowed outside for recess without a coat/hat/gloves. C lives for recess so she complies, but she's not happy about it.
From a recent trip to the zoo Outside temperature was 28F (-2C) and very windy |

Lying on the bed, staring at the window where eight - maybe ten - flies buzz and ping against the screen. Where did they come from? It is the first cold, thin, brittle day of winter and the house has been vacant for three weeks. Outside the window the brown meadow grass, covered with patches of old snow, blows in the frigid wind. It rises up to the crest of the hill, ending in cloudless blue sky and nothing else.

Self consciousness is one of my faults. So, having not posted anything of substance or commented for many months I wonder if I owe an explanation. But is an explanation necessary? And does anyone care? Why am I even writing these rhetorical questions?
Anyway, have some pictures. I intend to post more photos and more updates. And I have to start somewhere.

| Resolve |

I've had success with my main resolutions for the past couple years:
2008 Finish writing/creating/mixing a song a week. Finish writing a book a year. Get a job.
2009 Start dating again. Become more mindful of my life and who I am. Repeat 2008 song/book resolution.
Here's what I'm hoping for in 2010:
The easy ones: 1. Repeat 2008 song/book resolution yet again. 2. Finish setting up online presence for my music and writing. 3. Keep dating.
The not as easy: 1. Don't hit the snooze button. Make it so I stop rushing out in the morning. 2. Meditate in some way for 10 minutes a day. I don't want to do it "to make myself calm," just to see what arises from it. 3. Clean(er), less cluttered living. Which mainly means doing laundry more often, organizing the junk in my room/computer, and actually going to the eye doctor and PCP again.
The difficult: 1. Find some sort of exercise and stretching routine that works for me. Do more running. 2. Being more open. Not having such a clenched fist/clam-up mentality about the things that I do. |

| JESUS WHAT CELL PHONE SHOULD I GET |
|
|

i need to get a new cellphone soon, but holy SHIT, i do not want to spend the next week of my life researching new cellphones. nor do i want to stroll into one of those cellphone-store butcher shops to be slapped stupid by their firehose of meaningless lingo and convoluted, deliberately unintelligible payment options, just so some blank-eyed stooge can bump their commission up a few points to better serve their malevolent cellphone overlords...
ok, so did actually research it up on the internet. but it turns out that like half of the whole reason the internet EXISTS is to feed me "reviews" and "specs" and "walk-throughs" of a perennial army of different fancy plastic cell-phone-looking doodads, festooned with all sorts of infantilizing "next-gen" douche-singularity nonsense that i JUST, DO, NOT, NEED. i mean, GPS would be cool and all, but when it comes down to it, either 1) i already know where i am, 2) i don't want to know, or 3)i'd rather not have to rely on some incomprehensibly vast infrastructure of space-junk just to locate myself within my physical environment. call me old-fashioned, but sometimes i enjoy being disconnected from the matrix. i mean, i don't even LIKE talking on the phone, and actually kind of hate the fact that people now expect to establish a verbal connection with me at literally any given time or place... but hey, i'm functionally homeless, and this brave new first world's made it pretty much impossible to survive without one. so here i am, splitting the difference. and that's how i end up on livejournal, where i can seek an oracle -- YOU -- who won't lie to me or distort my feeble requests with their own ads and agendas, and who might even understand that i genuinely prefer to remain ignorant of whatever the hell "3GS," "UMA," or "MMS" stand for.
so uh, what do you have for a cellphone? do you like it? i basically want something cheap, compact, simple, and basically indestructible (without all these fancy weapons-grade macho "ruggedized" features, which seem to jack the price up into the ozone).
i've had what i think is a nokia 6030 on my person since late 2005, and it's served me quite nicely. but the screen's getting a little too cracked for comfort, but it's survived countless drops, bounces, dampenings, crushings and temper tantrums. so i guess i could get the new version of that... but if there's something fancy i'm missing, i wanna hear about it!
it'd also be cool to have a camera, if it's at least 2 megapixels, so i don't have to carry around my camera as well. and i dunno if there's any sort of setup like the iTouch where you can connect to the internet free with wifi... is there a cheap-ass cellphone version of that?
geez. this might be too much to ask. sorry for insulting all cellphone users while asking for help on buying cellphones. i'm just frustrated with how fucking awful the whole industry is. those stores and "kiosks"... jesus! talk about your double-digit-low circles of hell... |
