For a change of pace, I thought that I might discuss the myriad small triumphs that have come my way. Although they seem to me somewhat overwhelmed by a general sense of woe and disappointment, it's usually good practice to chronicle the concrete good along with the abstract bad.
To that end:
-My urban bird feeding project is finally beginning to pay dividends. Yes, there are still (now extremely fat) sparrows and pigeons, but in addition I am seeing cardinals, blue jays and finches.
-After meeting with my professor this week, we decided that I did not have to register for directed study, but rather can work on an independent, original research project, with the eventual goal of having it published in a peer-review journal. I picked a pretty boss topic that has not really been covered in linguistic anthropology literature to date, so that's promising.
-I'm doing great here at the lab.
-Uh... I won a $20 gift card to Barnes and Noble from the departmental holiday party.
A series of small triumphs indeed. With triumphs come harrumphs, of course, but hey. |
